The Art of Handstand
A journey into balance
Sundays 21st of June
from 1.30pm until 4pm
Handstands are more than just a physical posture; they are a journey into trust, courage, and self-discovery. This workshop is designed for all levels, beginners and early explorers alike, offering you the tools, guidance, and confidence to move past fear and into a place of lightness, balance, and joy.
[Workshops are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged for other events or classes in case of cancellation]
The Program
A focused exploration in one extended session
Foundations, Strength & Integration
This workshop is a complete journey into the world of handstands, in a single, rich session. The limited group size allows Martin to meet each person where they are; with care, presence, and individual guidance.
We’ll begin by building a base you can rely on, both physically and mentally: preparatory work for the shoulders, core, and wrists, alongside a clearer sense of how the body organizes itself upside down. Through strength work, awareness-based drills, and playful balance explorations, you’ll be invited to investigate falling, re-entering, and finding your bearings, without rush or pressure.
As the session unfolds, we’ll move into alignment, breath, and balance refinement, exploring what it means to stay upside down with more presence, steadiness, and ease. The work adapts to individual needs and levels, and may include different entries, balance strategies, and moments of supported free-standing exploration.
⧊This session holds both the beginning and the continuation: learning to listen to your body, replacing fear with curiosity, and discovering how strength and softness can coexist. The intention is not to “get” a handstand, but to feel that the path toward it is accessible, intelligent, and entirely your own.
The Experience
This workshop is more than technical training; it’s an exploration of what it means to stand tall within yourself, even when upside down. Through carefully designed drills and a clear understanding of the mechanics of handstands, you’ll learn how to build strength, refine alignment, and develop the awareness needed to balance with ease.
At Little Bali, the practice is not about competition or comparison. It is a space of encouragement and authenticity, where no one is judged, and where each practitioner is invited to progress at their own rhythm. Mistakes are welcomed as part of the learning, and every step forward, no matter how small, is honored.
With Martin’s deep knowledge and attentive guidance, you’ll be supported both technically and personally. He brings together precision and playfulness, making the practice both safe and inspiring. In this uplifting environment, you’ll find the courage to face fear gently, rebuild trust in your body, and cultivate patience as you expand beyond what you thought possible; discovering not just how to balance on your hands, but also how to feel more balanced within yourself.
Prerequisite
This workshop is open to all levels.
You don’t need an advanced practice; each participant will be able to explore within their own range of movement.
That said, a small foundation of strength is recommended: being able to hold a plank for at least 30 seconds is a good indicator that your body is ready to work with what follows.
For safety, it’s important to join this series without injuries: especially in the shoulders and wrists. The practice involves deep work that engages joints and muscles, which need to be healthy and not in a healing phase.
⧊ If you’re unsure whether this series is for you, simply reach out; we’ll be happy to guide you and help you find your place in this journey.
Your Teacher Martin
Martin has been practicing yoga for more than 10 years, with a foundation deeply rooted in the tradition of Ashtanga Yoga. His journey took him to India, where he immersed himself not only in asana but also in the philosophy that underpins the practice. Over the years, he has continued to expand his understanding through Vinyasa Yoga and through training with several teachers, including a teacher training with David Swenson.
His teaching is rooted in authenticity, clarity, and a grounded presence. What began as a fascination with handstands during his breakdancing years has evolved into a refined practice that unites strength, precision, and artistry. Beyond yoga, Martin is also a visual artist. This creative lens gives him a unique attention to detail and a deep respect for individuality, allowing him to guide each student in a way that honors their body and personal expression, always encouraging growth without force or standardization.
